Family Bike Ride Zoo Ride

Bexley Garden, 48 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge
An epic ride from Cambridge to the Franklin Park Zoo and back. We will ride 8-9 miles each way through a carefully curated route designed to reduce motor vehicle risk. On the way there we will ride the Emerald Necklace, on the way back we will ride the SW Cooridor Park plus some bike friendly infrastructure in downtown Boston. This ride is too long for emerging self propelled riders that don't have the option to hop on/off a cargo bike.
The zoo features great animals, zoo lights decorations that look great during the day too, a fantastic playground and 2 additional fun play structures, and a cafeteria.
Attendees must pay for their own admission to the zoo, indicate on your registration form if you have a membership or not, if your membership includes guests, and we can try to save some people some money by matching people up ahead of time. Also the public libraries have discounted zoo passes you can check out for those who are not matched up.
A long event, great for families that love both riding/exploring and the zoo. Plan on eating lunch at the zoo, pack a lunch if you want to avoid their high prices.
Tentative schedule, can be changed based on how it is going and preferences of people attending. We will have our text message communication system to coordinate during the event.

9:15-10:30AM ride (with 1 break at Harry Downes playground)
10:30AM arrive
10:30AM-12:30PM zoo free time
12:30PM lunch at cafeteria
1:00PM depart
1:00PM-2:15PM ride back to Cambridge (with 1 break at Jackson Square playground)

For some times we will have to ride on sidewalks in areas without many pedestrians. As always, yield to pedestrians. We will not be covering each intersection with marshals as we do for our seasonal rides, we will look out for each other, this will be a smaller group ride, and we will obey traffic lights.
Make sure your battery is fully charged and your bike is in good working order. We will have NEMO as our maintenance sweep!
Make sure everyone in the family uses the restroom before departing each direction.
