Spring 2025 Family Bike Ride

Meet at Esplanade Playground; Boston  

Join us for the 4rd Annual Spring Family Bike Ride!    Featuring community, a curated ride highlighting Boston's bike infrastructure, a cookie potluck*, a fun playground destination at Government Center, supplemental entertainment and play.   Participants are encourage to grab lunch from nearby vendors during free time at Government Center.  

Parents must accompany children at all times; helmets required.

There is no fee to register, event is open to public, donations are encouraged to support Family Bike Ride operations.   We are a parent organized group and the ride has expenses of permits, some paid personnel with this ride, insurance, safety equipment, graphics, play equipment, entertainment, supplies and more.   We receive some support from sponsors and all organizer time is volunteered but rely on participant financial support as well.

Schedule:

Noon-1PM Gather anytime during this time frame on the esplanade near the eponymously named Esplanade Playground, not to be confused with otherly named esplanade playgrounds.   

For this ride due to logistics we will form small groups instead of one big group so pretty much as soon as you arrive you can depart.   At the very start we must walk our bikes over the Fiedler Footbridge.    

Please ride slow, yield to pedestrians, stay to the right, give space to other riders, pass on the left.    Parents please coach your kids in these rules.   

12:15PM-2:45PM Free time at Government Center.   

Suggested activities:

• Grab lunch from a vendor at Boston Public Market or Faneuil Hall Market Place, to either eat there or come back and eat at Gov't Center

• Enjoy the cookie potluck

• Play on Government Center playground or with additional play/sports equipment we will bring

• Music by Keytar Bear

• If that is not enough, and you want to venture a tiny bit farther away consider the Museum of Illusion or the Greenway Carousel.

2:00PM-3:00PM Optional Return ride   If you wish to have a guided ride back to the start location, we will facilitate that during this time frame. 

*Families are encouraged but not required to bring cookies to share.   Indicate on the registration form what you are bringing.    For those bringing cookies not store packaged, please indicate the allergen status of the cookie with respect to dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, eggs, soy, gluten but those with serious allergies nevertheless should use their judgement and consider sticking to packaged options.
